Call to order
President Jim Murphy called the meeting to order at 7:04
PM. The meeting took place at the Knights of Columbus.
Secretary’s Report
The
minutes for the February 13, 2008 meeting were presented
for approval. Mike Foster moved that the
minutes be approved; Greg Reis seconded;
the motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report
The
Treasurer’s Report, prepared by Lori Schulz, was
presented for review. Lori reported that all tournament
fees have been paid, Indoor tournament made $2,200
including merchandise sales, and most uniforms have been
paid. Nancy Dreyer moved that the report
be approved; Mike Foster seconded; the
motion carried.
Committee Reports…
Competition:
Greg Reis reported that the committee met after the last
board meeting and are recommending the same tournaments
as this year, unless there were bad experiences by any
of the teams. Doing this will allow the new travel
coordinator to begin booking rooms for the 2009 season.
Jim Thomas asked if the committee looked at specific age
groups and their needs for different options. They had
not, but Greg offered to look at the teams’ needs on an
individual basis.
Finance: No
Report.
Fundraising:
Jim Murphy reported that he and Tony Reis met and
recommended sending a letter out to 500 businesses
asking for their sponsorship for the Gem City Shoot-Out
tournament. Lori Schulz and Nancy Dreyer will get the
letters in the mail. Jim Thomas asked about trying to
email the letters, but it was determined that loading
email addresses would be too big of a job at this time.
Rules and Bylaws:
Jim
Murphy reported that he will get the information to
Denette to review.
Activities: Jane
McNay was absent; Jim Murphy reported that a Sponsor
Appreciation Night will be held at Krieger’s on March 18th
from 6:30 – 9P. Teams are to bring in their trophies
and present them to Krieger’s and Advance Physical
Therapy. Jim also reported that a trophy case has been
approved by K & L Arena owners to be built at their
facility to house many of the tournament trophies won by
our teams. Terry Bower will complete this trophy case.
Reminder that Ramona Barber will be in Quincy at the
America’s Best Value Inn this Sunday from 3:00P – 5:00P
to speak to parents/players about college preparation.
Equipment:
Dave Keck reported that balls are still on order;
however the “match” balls are in.
Merchandising: Nancy
Dreyer reported that the committee is looking into warm
up suits for parents to purchase for themselves and
their players and will have them available to view;
orders will be taken. Coaches’ shirts are still being
reviewed for purchase.
Indoor Tournament:
Jim
Murphy reported that the 2nd weekend was not
as full, and didn’t really benefit the Club
financially. Steve Venvertloh suggested using the
second weekend as a training weekend with QU players and
coaches or some other group.
Outdoor Tournament:
Jim Murphy reported that several applications have been
received, and many other teams are requesting
information about the tournament. Several U8 teams want
to come and are contacting other teams to make the age
group competitive for them. One to two teams have
resulted from the Gotsoccer.com website ad. Tony Reis
will send an email to the U8 – U13 boys and girls teams
in SLYSA League inviting them to the tournament. Jim
Murphy will do a similar email to Illinois clubs.
Jim
is asking that anyone available on Friday, May 16th
to come to the fields and help with setup.
Newsletter: Jim
reported that the newsletter hasn’t really materialized,
but is still looking for someone to chair this
committee. He will handle it himself until others can
be secured. Please send any information or ideas to Jim
at the Club’s email address.
Website:
Jim Murphy requested team managers, coaches or
representatives to email tournament and league game
results to him to place on the webpage for the teams.
This information will also help Terry Bower when
submitting team information for tournaments.
Vice-President’s
Report
No
Report.
Director of
Operations Report
Terry Bower reported that 21 teams are going to the
Peoria Mid America Cup tournament. He reported that an
online roster will have to be submitted for each team;
contact him for your team I.D. to obtain access to your
team’s information.
Terry’s U15 boys’ team has only 13 players; he has found
two new players and is requesting approval to add them
to his roster. A decision will be made by the Executive
Board.
Director of Coaching
Report
Matt Longo was not available. Jim Murphy reported that
any issues or problems with SLYSA need to be handled
through an Officer of the Board.
Via
an email, Matt reminded everyone that they not only
represent QUSC, but the City of Quincy as well when
playing in league games and tournaments. Coaches, Matt
is available for any assistance you may need during
league or tournament games. Please feel free to contact
him for help. He is also available if help is needed at
practices; he can be reached at 653-0404. Matt also
wants coaches, parents, and players to remember that as
a Director for Quincy United, myself and the others, are
here to take care of difficult situations if, or when
they arise for any of you. Please call and let any one
of us help you. If a situation arises, let us handle it
for you. Phone numbers and email addresses for Club
Directors can be found on the Club website. Have a
great season.
President’s Report
Jim
reported that Terry Bower and he met and sent an email
to SLYSA about games that are scheduled during the Gem
City Shoot-Out. If teams offer to play a weekday game
they may be able to accommodate our request to change
those games. Another option is to call the other teams
to see if they are willing to make a schedule change.
SLYSA has been very accommodating with us on several
occasions.
Jim
reminded Team Representatives to make sure Team Managers
have a first aid kit on hand at all times during games.
Mike Foster’s company sells first aid kits and he will
get cost information to us. Also, team managers need to
have medical waivers available at practices as well as
games.
Old Business
Budget for the End of Season Celebration did not get
completed by Lori Schulz and Jane McNay.
Nancy Dreyer and Lori Schulz will work on guidelines and
duties for the new hotel coordinator position and report
back.
New Business
Randy Westerman reported that for the U10 boys’ team
they have no assistant coaches available if a problem
arises (coach is ejected, can’t make a game, etc.). Jim
Murphy recommended carding an “administrator” type
person to help when problems present themselves.
Discussion
Nothing.
Next Meeting
The
next meeting will be held Wednesday, April 9, 2008
at 7:00 PM at the Knights of Columbus.
Adjournment:
The
meeting was adjourned at 8:10 PM. Greg Reis
moved that the meeting be adjourned;
Mike Foster, seconded.
